Home renovations can be very complex, so a bit of planning goes a very long way.
Interior designer Karen Sealy shares her tips with The Province:
1. Work out the mechanics
It’s extremely tempting to bypass more boring, finer details such as plumbing and heating, and jump straight to the more fun task of interior designing, but Sealy warns this is a bad move.
It’s all very well have a room that is aesthetically pleasing, but you won’t be able to enjoy it properly if it comes with a cold draft.
2. Choose quality over quantity
If your home is calling for the renovation of several rooms, costs can quickly add up. A good idea is to select the room you will most likely spend the most time in and ensure that this room houses quality furniture and pieces.
If it is an outdoor space you require, instead of choosing a large footprint, keep it small and use quality pieces that will last a lifetime.
3. Keep it functional
It’s important to think about the future of your room. An office may require more space down the track for larger quantities of files, whereas a living room may need space to hide toys with any future additions to the family.
